Value Area, POC, VAH & VAL
The 70% zone the market considers fair, and its edges.
The Point of Control (POC) is the most-traded price of the session. The Value Area is the range around it that holds about 70% of the activity — the prices the market agreed were fair.
- POC — the fairest price; acts as a magnet and a pivot.
- VAH / VAL — Value Area High and Low, the edges of that 70% zone.
- Acceptance vs rejection — trading back inside value suggests balance; accepting outside value suggests a new trend.
A classic framework: price opening and staying outside the prior day's value area signals initiative and potential trend; opening inside it signals a rotational, mean-reverting day. VAH, VAL and POC from the previous session are among the most-watched intraday references.
POC, VAH and VAL are computed in AlgoPloy's Rust core (flow-core) and verified against a reference implementation — the same numbers live and in replay.
